What this privacy policy covers

This Privacy Policy sets out the approach which the New Zealand Committee for UNICEF (UNICEF Aotearoa) will take in relation to the handling of personal information in accordance with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 (the Privacy Act). It includes information on how UNICEF Aotearoa collects, holds, uses and discloses your personal information and the steps we take to protect that information.

It also covers how you may access and seek the correction of the personal information that UNICEF Aotearoa New Zealand collects and holds about you. Please read this Privacy Policy before using this website, or submitting your personal information to us. By using this website, you agree to be bound by the terms of this Privacy Policy. This Privacy Policy is subject to, and must be read in conjunction with, our Terms and Conditions.

We may update or revise this Privacy Policy from time to time.

Terminology

In this Privacy Policy, the terms “UNICEF Aotearoa”, “we”, “us” and “our” refer to The New Zealand Committee for UNICEF, and the terms “you” and “your” refer to you as a website user or donor/supporter.

“Personal information” means any information about an identifiable individual and may include, for example, your name, email address, account user name, mailing address, phone number, date of birth, contact preferences, donation-related information, any information you post to our website, online activity logs related to our website, IP addresses, cookies, device, browser and operating system identifiers, internet tags, location and navigational data provided by your connection, server addresses, top-level domain names, dates and time of visits to the website, pages accessed and documents downloaded, interactions with tools and advertising, previous websites visited and the type of browser used.

Information we gather

UNICEF Aotearoa will collect personal information where the information is reasonably necessary for one or more of our functions or activities or where the collection of information is otherwise permitted by law.

UNICEF Aotearoa will collect personal information when you contact us, make an inquiry, make a donation, purchase our products or otherwise provide us with your personal information. This could include when you subscribe to our e-newsletter, log in to your account, fill out contact forms or send email, post content to our website, social me dia pages, or blog, or call us. We don’t record phone calls but we may keep a summary of our conversations with you.

Billing Information

Should you sign up to be a recurring donor or donate a one-off amount, we require your billing information in order to process the transaction. UNICEF Aotearoa does collect your billing information if you donate, which, in addition to the information listed above, may also include your credit card details, and other information that is necessary in order to process the transaction. Under no circumstance do we store any of your sensitive billing details.

We can access in Stripe.com (see below) the last 4 digits of your credit card number, its expiry date, and credit card type, so that we may identify that card used in the future. We do not store any other billing information. This information is safely discarded after your transaction has been processed.

If your donation is auto-renewing, a recurring subscription will be created at our payment gateway, Stripe.com. Stripe.com will store your billing information on their secure payment gateway for as long as necessary to carry out the terms of your subscription. Should you cancel your subscription, your billing information will be immediately removed by Stripe.com. All transactions are processed over an industry standard SSL/TLS connection, with a minimum of 128-bit encryption.

Computer and network

UNICEF Aotearoa automatically receives and records information on our server logs from your browser, including your IP address, cookies, and the pages you request. We also collect other user information as part of our analytics software, in order to improve the service and personalise your website experience. We may link such information to any personally identifiable information you submit while on this site.

An IP address is a unique number assigned by Internet Service Providers to all devices used to access the internet. Web page servers automatically log the IP addresses of visitors to their website.

A cookie is a small amount of data, which often includes an anonymous unique identifier that is sent to your browser from a website's computers and stored on your computer's hard drive.

You can configure your browser to accept all cookies, reject all cookies, or notify you when a cookie is set. If you reject all cookies, you may not be able to use all of our services or to take full advantage of all offerings.

IP addresses, cookie identifiers and information collected via cookies may not, on their own, identify an individual. However, in certain circumstances, it could be used to identify an individual. Information relating to children

We do not intentionally collect personal information about individuals under the age of 18. Individuals under the age of 18 are prohibited from donating or using accounts through our website, unless authorised and supervised by their parents/legal guardian.

Personal information use, sharing and disclosure 

The personal information that we collect will be used to provide services you have authorised or requested. We may also use personal information collected by us to:

• Carry out internal research and development, including planning for and improving future child rights fundraising and advocacy activities;
• Carry out surveys;
• Prepare communications in respect of our child rights fundraising and advocacy activities;
• Respond to any requests or correspondence from you;
• Communicate with you about your donation;
• Manage and improve this website and any related services;
• Provide you with information about a service that you are using (including critical updates, announcements);
• Reduce the need for you to repeatedly enter the same information;
• Customise this website to suit your particular preferences and interests;
• Where you create a message using this website (for the purpose of sending that message to us, or to any other recipient specified by you), send that message;
• Analyse website usage, trends and statistics for evaluative and reporting purposes;
• Where permitted by law, supply you with further information concerning fundraising and advocacy-related products and services which may be of interest to you and general updates about our work, including by electronic message;
• Carry out any other use that is authorised by you, or is notified to you at the time of collection; or
• Monitor and prevent fraud and abuse committed via our services.

UNICEF Aotearoa does not share your personal information with others except as described in this Policy. We do not share, sell, rent or trade personal information with third parties for their promotional purposes.

When you post content on our website or blog, you have the ability to post content which may include personally identifiable information about yourself. Third parties

UNICEF Aotearoa uses third party applications to provide necessary functionality, and improve user experience and our services. UNICEF Aotearoa may use or share your personal information with our service providers where it is necessary to complete a transaction, to operate or improve our website, or to do something that you have asked us to do. For example, a credit card processing company to bill you for donations. These third parties are prohibited from using your personal information for promotional purposes. Our websites use Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google, Inc. ("Google"). Google Analytics uses cookies. The information generated by the cookie about your use of the website (including your IP address) will be transmitted to and stored by Google on servers in the United States. Google will use this information for the purpose of evaluating your use of our websites, compiling reports on website activity for website operators and providing other services relating to website activity and internet usage. Google may transfer this information to third parties where required to do so by law, or where such third parties process the information on Google's behalf. Google will not associate your IP address with any other data held by Google. You may refuse the use of cookies by selecting the appropriate settings on your browser. Changes to this Privacy Policy

UNICEF Aotearoa may revise, modify or update this Policy. Changes tothis Privacy Policy will take effect immediately once they are published on our websites. Please check the Privacy Policy periodically for changes. We will notify you about significant changes in the way we treat personal information by sending a notice to the primary email address specified in your particular UNICEF Aotearoa account or by placing a prominent notice on our website prior to the change becoming effective.

Confidentiality and security

No data transmissions over the internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. Consequently, we cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us and you do so at your own risk. Once we receive your transmission, we make every effort to ensure it is kept as securely as possible.

We use physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards to protect personal information about you. Your account information is password-protected. Additionally, your account's password is stored using a salted, variable work factor, one-way hash algorithm.

In certain areas, UNICEF Aotearoa uses industry-standard SSL-encryption to protect data transmissions. However, please note that this is not a guarantee that such information may not be accessed, disclosed, altered or destroyed by breach of such firewalls and secure server software.

If UNICEF Aotearoa learns of a security systems breach we may attempt to notify you electronically so that you can take appropriate protective steps. We may post a notice on our applicable websites if a security breach occurs. If this happens, you will need a web browser enabling you to view the applicable websites. We may also send an email to you at the email address you have provided to us in these circumstances.

Transaction processing

We use Stripe for payment, analytics, and other business services. Stripe collects identifying information about the devices that connect to its services. Stripe uses this information to operate and improve the services it provides to us, including for fraud detection. Access and correction of personal information and contacting UNICEF Aotearoa New Zealand

Under the Privacy Act 2020 you have the right to access and request a correction to your personal information. To ensure that your recorded personal information is accurate and up-to-date, please notify us of any changes to your personal details as soon as possible through the methods below.

You can also edit your account information within any UNICEF Aotearoa donation portal that you may use. You can delete your account by contacting us.

We will retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you donation services. Please note that some personal information, primarily your contact information, may remain in our records to the extent necessary to comply with our legal obligations or to document our compliance with relevant regulatory requirements.
